Clint Davis, counselor, ordained minister, and army veteran had life coach and trauma survivor Marni on the Asking Why podcast, to tell a story of recovery from trauma and to give perspective to those walking through darkness right now. Here is a quote from Marni herself!
My name is Marni Goldman. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and lived a life that is jaw-dropping and unimaginable – the daughter of an addicted mother who married for money as she’d been instructed to do. In spite of these circumstances, I have survived trauma, diagnosed with many different mental illnesses, yet still made it through alive to share what can be done to survive. My story sounds like fiction: just when you think you’ve heard it all…
I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar II disorder (manic episodes), ADHD, and borderline personality disorder. To survive in this world where people seem to be so happy all the time is hard enough without having these disorders!
In the wake of my own personal crisis, I found a profound sense of peace and self-acceptance.
My life changed once I stopped asking myself “Why is this happening to me?” Instead, I began to ask the question “What can I learn from this?” People no longer see me as a victim and instead believe in my strength. The moment I committed to being true to myself, everything changed.
Even in the darkest moments, our challenges always grow us and make us more authentic. I hope my story will inspire you as you travel down your own path.”
